Sustainability

Performance is the lever. Sustainability is the outcome.

The buildings, infrastructure and industry we engineer consume energy, emit carbon and shape the working lives of the people inside them. Our job is to make those numbers smaller — measurably, year on year.

Why this matters

Buildings are responsible for ~36% of EU energy consumption and ~37% of energy-related CO₂.

Cutting energy intensity, electrifying heat, integrating renewables and re-tuning operations is how the built environment decarbonises. APIS sits exactly at that intersection — engineering, build, service, optimisation.

Our framework

Four sustainability responsibilities.

We approach sustainability across four dimensions — engineering, operational, ESG, and supply chain. Every project deliverable is measured against at least one of them.

01

Engineering

Right-sized equipment, low-carbon system selection, renewable-ready electrical and mechanical designs, lifecycle cost optimisation built in from concept stage.

02

Operational

M&V, energy management systems, BMS tuning, predictive maintenance — turning installed equipment into measurably-performing assets year over year.

03

ESG & people

Occupational health and safety, equal opportunity employment, ethical conduct, anti-bribery — documented practices that pass institutional procurement and lender review.

04

Supply chain

Supplier code of conduct, qualified subcontractor pool with documented HSE and quality management, locally-sourced where viable to reduce transport carbon.

Targets & metrics

What we measure. What we publish.

Sustainability without measurement is decoration. We track project-level and corporate-level KPIs across energy, carbon, safety and supply-chain performance.

−42% Average energy reduction targeted on optimisation projects (vs. baseline) Project KPI
100% New-build electrical & mechanical designs prepared as renewable-ready Engineering KPI
0 Lost-time incidents target on every active project — annual reporting HSE KPI
ISO 9001 / 14001 / 45001 integrated management system Certification
EU Taxonomy-aligned renewable energy and energy-efficiency mandates Alignment
100% Subcontractors required to declare HSE and supplier code of conduct compliance Supply chain
Standards alignment

International & EU frameworks we work to.

Our project deliverables and management systems are aligned to internationally-recognised standards relevant to engineering, sustainability and ESG.

  • ISO 9001 / 14001 / 45001 — integrated quality, environmental and HSE management systems
  • ISO 50001 — energy management systems for facility operations
  • EN 16247 — energy audit methodology
  • EU Taxonomy & CSRD — eligibility & alignment for capital deployment in sustainable activities
  • UN Sustainable Development Goals — primary alignment with SDGs 7, 9, 11, 12, 13
  • IFC Performance Standards — for international financial institution-funded mandates
Commitments

What we hold ourselves accountable for.

Beyond technical KPIs, these are the operating commitments that define how APIS does business — and what clients, employees and partners can expect from us.

01

Honest engineering

If a system can't perform, we say so — at design stage, not after handover. We don't oversell, we don't underspecify.

02

Safety first, always

No project deliverable, no commercial pressure, no schedule justifies compromising HSE practice. Zero LTI is the only acceptable target.

03

Equal opportunity

Hiring on capability and fit, regardless of gender, age, ethnicity, religion or any protected characteristic. Active outreach to women in engineering.

04

No bribery, no exceptions

Anti-bribery and anti-corruption policy applies to staff, suppliers and any party acting on APIS' behalf. Documented and audited.

05

Continuous learning

Annual training requirement for engineering staff on standards, technology and HSE. Sponsored chartered-engineer paths where applicable.

06

Transparent reporting

Annual sustainability disclosure aligned to applicable EU CSRD requirements and IFI reporting where contractually required.
